Matt moved to Humboldt in 2013 to take up a position with the California Conservation Corps (CCC) as a recruiter. Matt holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UC San Diego, where he graduated from John Muir College. His passion for the environment and green technologies has played an active role in his employment. After his work at the CCC, he went on to work for members of the local solar and green technology industries including Sunfrost and Westhaven Solar before coming to work for Scurfield Solar and Heating.
Solar Systems Designer
Daniel moved to Humboldt County in 2005 to attend Humboldt State University where he majored in Geography and minored in Appropriate Technology. After graduation, he worked at Sun Frost Solar Refrigerators and was mentored under green engineering guru, Larry Schlussler. One of Daniel’s best qualities is the ability to easily understand and explain technical product information as well as diagnose and solve problems. Daniel has direct hands-on work with design of on and off grid solar power systems and is passionate about continuing his development of new appropriate technology designs.
Rebekah left the workplace for a few years in 2015 to be at home full time with her son until he was old enough to start school. She feels lucky to be back in the workforce with a team that’s dedicated to serving its community and environment. Rebekah has always had an interest in sustainable energy and continues to learn from many different sources. She brings many years of customer service, office management experience and skills to our team.
Mishka started working in Humboldt County for Ancient Forest International, an organization that works to safeguard biological diversity in primary forests in temperate and tropical bioregions, and hasn't left since. Needless to say, he's always had a heart for reversing climate change and community self reliance. His experiences in permaculture, off-grid living and installing both solar and micro hydroelectric energy systems make Mishka a perfect fit for our team. Nowadays you can catch him driving our electric vehicle around town, on his bike or on foot training for his next marathon!
Brian came to Humboldt in 1992 to study at Humboldt State University and has been here ever since raising his two boys in Trinidad. Brian values teaching others about energy efficiency to save money and hopes to help our community be good stewards of the planet. He brings decades of sales experience and successful communication skills to the Scurfield team.
Installation and Service Expert
Born and raised in Humboldt County, Reed Neely-Mangos' father mentored him from an early age to be mechanically inclined. As a young child, Reed loved to take apart and reassemble electronics to learn how they function. While working as automotive service writer/technician at his family’s locally-owned automotive business, he became skilled in working on all things mechanical. He furthered his skill set while working as a stone mason with a local Humboldt County construction firm. In his free time, Reed likes to hike with his two children and enjoy time together at the river.
Elijah came to Humboldt for work back in 2016 and because loves the weather and geography, he continues to stay here. He has a knack for efficiency as well as self-independence and hopes to channel those traits into off-grid living one day. Elijah brings electrical and roofing knowledge and experience with him to Scurfield and remains a vital part of our team.
Scott moved to Humboldt County in 1995, has plenty of extended family in the area and appreciates its ideal climate. Scott's moved toward energy self-sufficiency for years: he drives an electric vehicle, has a solar system paired with on-site storage, and even integrated his hot water with his heating system himself.
Scurfield Solar & Heating installed Scott's battery system and our work left an impression on him, so he chose to work with us when the opportunity came about. With more than 20 years of security experience working with every trade you can think of as well as learning by observing, modifying, monitoring, and controlling systems and methods, Scott acquired numerous trade certifications and is constantly training to learn more.
Alex graduated with an AA in Environmental Studies before working with us and brings past work experience in the trades, especially roofing, as he studied in the College of the Redwood electrical program. His interest in reducing his carbon footprint led him to explore solar energy more closely.
Eric moved to Humboldt County in 2001 to attend College of the Redwoods and went on to complete a Bachelor's degree at Humboldt State University. Fast forward to today and Eric and his family have put down roots in our community as they love Eureka and love to explore all the open spaces. He's passionate about helping our community become energy independent and move towards a lifestyle that's less impactful on our planet. Eric's prior work history includes carpentry, plumbing and appliance installation and maintenance.
Our very own mascot!
